Photos and interview!

We had a great time last week with White Wall Photography in the studio taking photos for a Finders Keepers Creative Space interview. Our interview went live yesterday here.  There are pics of the shop, Tali teaching a Nest Studio class, Umbrella Prints work space and pin boards, Carly with her new book, my styling work (Amy) and more.

White Wall Photography

The very delightful Alia & Scott from White Wall Photography popped into the studio this morning to shoot our creative space... and I LOVE this photo! I love how the colours are all melty and pretty together. It is refreshing to have another set (two sets) of creative eyes look around the studio to pick out new little spaces and capture them on virtual film.... I have never looked at our fabric at this angle.

Scott & Alia made all of us in the studio feel so comfortable... you know how awkward having your photo can be... and Scott seemed to capture the fun an light of the studio in just a couple of clicks! It's no wonder their showcase of wedding photos is so beautiful.

Have a look at the lovely quilt Kate Conklin made with our coming soon sewing fabrics! Carly and I met Kate at a fair in Melbourne last year and again in the shop recently; she managed to sew this quilt with new babe in arms.  It is a treat to see how Kate has interpreted our fabrics in this sweet and light quilt design of hers.

Organic basecloth is here!!

We have spent so much time and effort sourcing our beautiful organic hemp cotton basecloth that we thought we really should share some of it around... We have been printing on this versatile eco friendly gorgeous fabric for almost 4 years now....  you can now buy half metres (or more) from our shop for just $14. If you haven't played with this fabric yet, give it a go, it's so lovely to sew with. We have it in both natural unbleached and a lovely bright cream...

A pair of chairs

We have two gorgeous freshly upholstered chairs at Umbrella Prints headquarters. This one here has been reupholstered in our Rembrant's Pear in Grand Hearts on organic hemp cotton. We took the stunning chair outside (between sun showers) using what we have, which is the uber funky industrial look of our surroundings, something we have always been meaning to do ... Nice photo hey!

After tallying all your votes (thanks everyone!!!) we have RSI (!) and are very very pleased to announce the winner by popular vote of the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition 2011 is ~nova!!!!

~nova made a wonderful assortment of items using Umbrella Prints trimmings including a needlecase, zippered project bag, scissor case & mini pincushion, notebook cover, pencil case, thread catcher, covered tape measure, small zip purse and some lovely cards with recycled paper.

We liked the way ~nova coordinated our fabrics with additional coloured fabrics and used the natural linen backgrounds which made all the pretty colours stand out beautifully.

Voters commented that they coveted all of the items ~nova made and that she used the fabric to showcase Umbrella Prints fabric whilst bringing her own creative style to the mix. Agree!

Enoki new product design with Umbrella Prints and Marrimeko

Our friends at Enoki design firm specialise in visual branding and interior architecture amongst many other amazing things and they design a range of unique furniture and product. On Friday night they will be launching their new range of product at Bowerbird Bazaar 2-9pm.

Puzzle (see in white form above) is a table and bench set which fits together to form a cube and can be adapted and moved to multi-purpose as blocks, stage, puppet stage and beyond.

From Friday Puzzle will be available to order in Umbrella Prints organic hand screen printed fabric and in Marimekko fabrics! to see our new swatchbooks and latest fabrics on Enoki's Puzzle head on over and say hi!
